FINDING THE RIGHT BLOW-DRYER

There's something magical about walking out of a salon with a fresh blowout. Unfortunately for me I can NEVER, EVER achieve that same polished look at home. My curly hair always works against me. With all the effort I put into blowing out my hair at home I started to think that beyond the actual technique that stylists use for their blow outs, could my blow-dryer be part of the problem?

After some serious research and a closer look at the dryer I’ve been using for a few years the answer YES!

Of course hair texture comes into play but using a quality blow dryer (not the drug store $20 version) and the right brush can help you achieve that sleek look you want and protect your hair at the same time.

A few of the benefits you get when purchasing a "better blow-dryer" are options like more heat control and power to help dry your hair faster. That will translate to less blow-drying time and limited amount of heat that can damage your hair.

So how do you select the best dryer – here’s a few things to consider:

Features: Determine what features a blow dryer offers like adjustable heat and speed settings as well as what their attachments they include.

Wattage: Shoot for a wattage of 1800 to 2000 which means the motor of the dryer is strong enough to get the job done by efficiently

Ionic or Tourmaline: Both Tourmaline and Ionic hair dryers have their own benefits. If you care more about combatting frizz, then get a tourmaline dryer. If you want to cut back on the amount of time you spend drying your hair, go for an ionic dryer.

Ceramic, Porcelain, Infrared: Ceramic or porcelain can be used to coat (or replace) a dryer's metal or plastic heating elements to make the heat less harsh and more consistent in temperature. If a dryer's billed as infrared, this means it uses longer energy wavelengths to penetrate the hair and dries it from the inside out.

Titanium: While it does distribute heat evenly and steady and is lighter, it’s not a great choice for damage prone hair. But if blow-drying always feels like a workout than a titanium option might be right for you.

Weight: How heavy or light can be a crucial factor for anyone with long or thick hair. Some high quality dryers can be heavy which can make thedyring process overwhelming. Be mindful of how much your dryer weighs before making your final decision.

I also wanted to get the perspective of an actual hair stylist so I connected with hair expert, and beauty entrepreneur Kelly De Serio, owner of Reel Style Exchange Beauty Apothecary

Kelly only carries the Parlux 385 blow-dryer on her online store and I wanted to know why. "The Parlux 385 is petite and powerful and comfortably fits in the palm of a woman's hand. It's power and quality exceed other consumer options and is affordable compared to other luxury hot tools like dyson which can cost you over $600. It also helps me dry my clients hair much quicker so there's less time for hair to frizz or become unruly. The end result is softer, sleeker and more manageable hair."

A few more perks I discovered about the Parlux 385:

  • It's made using ironic and ceramic advanced technology

  • Lightweight, but powerful

  • Offers 2 speeds and 2 temp settings

  • Includes a safety thermostat that regulates overheating

  • Has a built in silencer for a quieter experience

  • Energy efficient

  • No toxic emissions

  • Made from recycled materials and uses eco-friendly packaging

  • 1 year warranty

If the Parlux 385 sounds like a good fit for you be sure to use our GGNJ 10% off coupon code: GOGREEN10 on the Reel Exchange Beauty Apothecary website.
